When it comes to cleaning, there are many chemical-based solutions that are designed to make cleaning duties quicker and easier, not to mention kill germs and bacteria. The downside to these chemicals is that they fall into a series of regulations called Control of Substances Hazardous to Health or COSHH for short. COSHH regulations are very distinct and require that anyone within a company that may come into contact with a substance that is deemed dangerous or hazardous to health must be trained by their employer as to the correct way to use and dispose of such substances.

Not only do office cleaners have to use hazardous chemicals and equipment but they often have to move heavy equipment around which necessitates a need for comprehensive manual handling training. According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) 2700 cleaners per year are involved in accidents that cause them to be absent from work for more than 3 working days. Of these 2700 office cleaners, 34% of their injuries are as a result of moving and handling.

As we can see, training is a highly important factor for anyone involved in the cleaning industry. With all the hazards and regulations surrounding this sector not to mention worker safety, initiating some form of training is imperative.
